Lucky Debris – Fine art seascape photography from the Gold coast

October 14, 2013 3 Comments

As ex tropical cyclone Oswald rolled through Queensland Australia all sorts of things were being washed up on our beautiful sandy beaches. The day after the rain had stopped and the sun was finally shining through to the high-rise buildings on the Gold Coast, tree stumps, logs, plastic bottles and branches all rolled up in different parts of the Gold Coast.

This photographic artwork was capture on Rainbow bay beach just in-between Greenmount and snapper rocks (a popular spot for many surf photographers) Though the winds were too strong and windy I was the only one on the beach, I noticed how lucky I was to find the debris (hence the name) and composed a shot just in time for sunrise.

Lucky debris is part of a series of mine, there is this shot and the other where the white wash from the waves and ocean have brushed up against the debris. Photographs of the ocean and in particular seascape photography on the Gold Coast can be hard to find a unique angle. Fortunately this is one of a kind and a popular photograph to have stretched on canvas.

Gold Coast images gallery and café currently have a this image on a stretched canvas hanging in their art gallery. Our high quality 400gsm fine art canvas offers a fine structure & a premium bright white inkjet coating for amazing reproduction of art and photography. Combine this with genuine ultrachrome inks of professional Epson printers & you have a canvas print with longevity of 100+ years. Each canvas is then sprayed with a liquid laminate, which not only enhances colour but also protects against UV fading, dust, minor scratches & water. Then expertly gallery wrapped over a stretcher bar made from quality Australian pine & finished with a tape seal backing & plastic coated hanging wire.

that technical qtuliay doesn’t hurt an image it always being possible to reduce pixel count, blur, vignette, etc. I like to think of photography as half creation, half data collection. Collecting good data is a craft; collecting great data, an art. My imperative, collect better data, means take better photographs by mastering the art of data acquisition. I know, the scientist in me is showing. Collecting better data, meanwhile, will be a topic at the workshop. […]

Happy New Year to you Justin. I always look forawrd to your wonderful photographs and brilliant writing. Here’s to 2012. BTW I went up to Lake county a couple of weeks ago. The museum has Ansel Adams’s Museum Collection on display. 70 stunningly beautiful images printed by the master himself. No comparison between his images in books and these large prints. There are only 3 of these sets in existence. One is in Carmel. If you have not seen it you must go. If your dad is into photography tell him to go see it in Lake County. It’s there until January 7.

Fast forward 6 hours and my alarm goes off, I stumble and drop my phone on the wall and manage to fall out of bed trying to turn it off. I hit the snooze button whilst I notice my partner being woken. I head back to sleep thinking I won't head down the beach.
