Brisbane’s Riverfire Festival always knows how to light up the sky - and this year, I decided to capture it like never before.
I’ve photographed Brisbane’s skyline countless times, but this was my first real attempt at Riverfire photos 2025 - and it turned into something completely different from what I expected.
It wasn’t planned. One minute I was at home, the next I was weaving through the crowds, camera gear in hand, hoping to find a good spot before the first firework exploded over the Brisbane River.
Turns out, I got lucky. A familiar location gave me the perfect view, and this time, with the sky set ablaze, Brisbane felt like a whole new city.
Before the first sparkle of Riverfire 2025, the skies rumbled with anticipation. The C-17A Globemaster III made a dramatic low flyby - that transport giant cutting a silhouette against the fading daylight. Alongside it, the EA-18G Growler jets tore across the sky, each with a different character of sound, size, and speed.
That moment, capturing metal, motion, and power against a backdrop of twilight, felt as epic as any firework. It grounded the abstract, reminding me that Riverfire isn’t just about light, it’s about scale, tension, and the beauty of contrast.
When editing these Riverfire photos 2025, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was looking at something bigger than fireworks. The bursts of colour reminded me of deep-space nebulae and celestial storms, abstract, chaotic, beautiful.
So, instead of the classic “skyline with fireworks” postcard style, I leaned into the abstract photography approach. The result? Images that feel part celebration, part cosmic explosion, Brisbane’s night sky reimagined.
These photographs aren’t just snapshots of a festival, they’re artwork. Each image captures the energy of Riverfire 2025 in a way that makes it perfect for Brisbane wall art and prints.
Whether it’s a pop of colour in a home or a bold statement piece in a commercial space, these prints bring the Riverfire magic indoors long after the last firework fades.

Over the recent Easter break, I had the chance to update my collection of Brisbane landscape photos, and let me tell you – the conditions were as close to perfect as you can get. Two mornings back-to-back, I set up along Kangaroo Point, overlooking the ever-evolving city skyline and the brand-new Kangaroo Point Bridge – Brisbane’s latest architectural statement.
What makes this spot truly special is not just the view (which, let’s be honest, is a stunner), but the way the early morning light dances across the Brisbane River and city buildings before the sun peeks over the horizon. That moment – when the city is caught between shadow and soft light – is where the magic happens.
I always recommend arriving a solid hour before sunrise. This is when the real drama unfolds – the sky starts to shift colours, the city lights are still glowing, and there’s a beautiful balance between the cool tones of night and the warming hues of the upcoming day. It's this balance that gives my Brisbane canvas art its distinct mood and depth.
This also gives me time to explore different compositions – moving around, switching lenses, and looking for unique elements like reflections, birds in flight, or foreground details that add that extra something. Sure, you could rock up just before the sun cracks the horizon, but if you're chasing that premium light for photography wall art, you’ve already missed half the show.
The new Kangaroo Point Bridge is now a feature piece in many of my updated Brisbane canvas prints. Its bold design gives the city skyline a fresh dynamic, offering new lines and shapes for creative compositions. It’s not just a bridge – it’s a photographic playground. Framing the bridge with the city in the background during those pre-dawn moments added a new dimension to my Brisbane collection.
These latest captures have been carefully edited and are now available as Brisbane photography wall art prints, ready to hang in your home, office, or creative space. Whether you’re after a canvas art piece to bring warmth into a room or a sleek framed print for a more modern look – there’s something in this new series that showcases Brisbane in a whole new light (literally).

Wow, it’s been a while since my last blog post! This year, I’m making a conscious effort to bring you more insight into my creative process, along with behind-the-scenes stories of the effort and dedication that go into capturing my artwork.
To be honest, I feel incredibly fortunate that so many people connect emotionally with my photography. Recently, I was chatting with another photographer about what makes art sell and why certain pieces resonate with people. I shared how many of my prints find new homes not just because of their visual appeal but because they evoke personal memories and emotions.
For some, a particular image reminds them of childhood days spent swimming with their father—who may no longer be with them. Others are drawn to a print because it captures the essence of their favourite holiday spot or because the abstract interplay of colours and lines speaks to them on a deeper level.
This is what makes my work so fulfilling. I absolutely love capturing stunning coastal landscapes, mesmerising waves, and the raw beauty of nature—especially in the ocean. Bringing my camera along and creating something that truly speaks to me is a deeply personal process. And when someone chooses to purchase a print—whether an individual or a large company—it’s one of the most rewarding feelings as an artist.
With that in mind, I’m excited to share a selection of my latest photographs, now available for purchase:

In the world of photography, there are moments that stand out as truly unforgettable experiences. One such moment for our photography business was a heart-pounding adventure in the skies in a doors-off helicopter photoshoot over Brisbane City at dusk. Today, we take you on an exhilarating journey behind the lens to share the unique challenges and rewards of capturing breathtaking images from high above the ground.
The Thrill of Flying Doors-Off There's something magical about soaring high above the world with the wind rushing through your hair and no barriers between you and the stunning landscapes below. For this doors-off helicopter photoshoot, we teamed up with experienced pilots from V2 Helicopters who specialize in providing a safe and exhilarating flying experience for aerial photography. Strapping in securely, we were ready to embark on a photographic adventure like no other.
Preparing for the Perfect Shot Before taking off, meticulous planning was crucial. We scouted potential shooting locations, taking into account the time of day, weather conditions, and the unique perspectives each spot offered. We also ensured our camera gear was securely fastened, as shooting from a helicopter adds an extra layer of complexity to the process.
Unparalleled Views and Perspectives Despite the challenges, the views were nothing short of awe-inspiring. From towering city skylines to pristine natural wonders, the vantage point from the helicopter allowed us to capture scenes from angles impossible to achieve on the ground. Our lenses framed iconic landmarks and hidden gems alike, revealing the world in an entirely new light.

There are few landmarks in Brisbane more iconic than the Story Bridge. For me, as a Brisbane-based fine art photographer, capturing its beauty is an ongoing pursuit.
One of my favourite shots of the Story Bridge was taken on its 80th birthday, at sunset, when the sky was a riot of colour. The Story Bridge stood proud, its intricate design bathed in a warm, golden glow. It was a truly magical moment, and I knew I had to capture it.
As a Brisbane artist, I specialise in creating wall art that showcases the character and beauty of our city. This Story Bridge photo is one of my favourites, and it's available as a canvas print or poster that will bring a touch of Brisbane magic to your home or office.
But it's not just about the Story Bridge. Brisbane is a city full of surprises, and my prints and wall art capture its essence in a range of settings. From the tranquillity of South Bank to the urban buzz of Fortitude Valley, my work reflects the diversity and character of Brisbane.
So, if you're looking for prints of Brisbane that truly capture the spirit of our city, be sure to check out my collection and those of my fellow Brisbane artists. We are passionate about showcasing the best of Brisbane through our art, and we're proud to be part of a thriving artistic community in this great city.

Have you ever heard of the Tangalooma Shipwrecks? They're a hidden treasure located off the coast of Brisbane, Australia, and they make for some truly stunning photography subjects. Luckily for you, I went off on an adventure to capture the beauty of these shipwrecks from a unique perspective, offering Tangalooma Shipwrecks prints that are sure to make your walls come to life.
Located on Tangalooma Island, the shipwrecks were intentionally sunk in the 1960s to create a breakwall for boats. Today, they are a popular destination for snorkeling, diving, and of course, photography. Aerial photography of the shipwrecks offers a new perspective on this stunning location, allowing you to appreciate the patterns, textures, and colors of the rusted hulls from above.
But how did I capture these stunning images? I chartered a helicopter with the doors off, of course! This allowed me to capture the shipwrecks from a unique vantage point, creating images that are truly one-of-a-kind. By flying in a helicopter with the doors off, it allowed me to take advantage of the open space and get shots that are impossible to achieve from the ground. This also gave me a higher angle compared to the typical drone shots you might see.
Each of the Tangalooma Shipwrecks prints offered by in this new collection is a high-quality fine art print that will bring the beauty of this unique location into your home. Available in a range of sizes, these prints are perfect for adding a touch of coastal charm to any room in your house. Whether you're a lover of beach photos or simply appreciate Australian fine art, these prints are sure to impress.
At Jon Wright Photography, we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality wall art prints that capture the beauty of the natural world. Our Tangalooma Shipwrecks collection is no exception. These prints offer a unique perspective on a hidden treasure of Brisbane's coast, bringing the mystery and beauty of the shipwrecks into your home.
So why not add a touch of coastal charm to your walls with one of our Tangalooma Shipwrecks prints? Each print is sure to become a conversation starter and a cherished piece of wall art in your home. Order now and discover the beauty of Tangalooma for yourself!

Timing a doors off helicopter shoot with perfect weather can often be challenging. On the Gold Coast however, it's a little bit easier compared to some places in the world. Generally speaking we have great weather all year round but from my surfing background I'm often looking at the water conditions, the clouds an direciton of the sun.
This brand new aerial collection has been on the list of to do's for a while now.
All images have been captured whilst flying in a helicopter over the beautiful Gold Coast.

If you have ever visited Brisbane or perhaps lived in Brisbane you would've noticed this iconic landmark which looks over the Brisbane River towards the Brisbane CBD. It's a popular spot and subject to photograph for landscape photographers for obvious reasons.
Slowing down your shutter speed to capture the blured motion of the wheel is a fun and exciting way to capture the wheel. I took it a step further and photographed Fireworks exploding behind it with a long focal length during RiverFire.
The idea and concept came during the moment. I saw the fireworks exploding and I wasn't close enough to the river to get a clear shot of the fireworks with the city in the background. So, I took out my long 100-400mm lens and started to capture a unique perspective, an abstract photograph the reminded me of a sci-fi film, planets in the solar system and even decided to capture what I beleive would mimic the rings of Saturn with asteroids exploding near by.
Often taking a step back to look at the bigger picture can bring a new and unique look to an often overly photographed location. I hope this strange, weird and wacky interpretation of the Brisbane Wheel brings your mind to a new place, a place of wonder and imagination where there are no bounds except your own creativity.
Don't forget, if you're looking for a Brisbane print for your wall I sell all my prints and have made it easy to do so. Click the links and you can purchase a print for your wall. Thanks for reading and keep shooting.
